Well Pettitte and Clemens return?

Richard Justice's blog suggests that Pettitte and Clemens may want to pitch elsewhere, and if the Astros pick up another starting pitcher it will give them an excuse to go...

Re: Well Pettitte and Clemens return?

Ultimately, I do believe Andy Pettitte and Roger Clemens will re-sign with the Houston Astros. Both will be one year deals to pitch in 2007. We just have to be a little patient in waiting for it to...

Re: Well Pettitte and Clemens return?

If Suppan will take four years and 36 million I give it to him yesterday. All the guy does is eat innings. I can't remember the last time he didn't go 180 innings or more (1998).I'm down with OBP...

Re: Well Pettitte and Clemens return?

I would be very nervous about paying $9 million for 4 years to a very mediocre pitcher like Suppan. He appears to have been fairly lucky on batted balls in play last season, and adjusting for that...

Re: Well Pettitte and Clemens return?

Eating a lot of innings at a league average ERA is not a bad thing at all. If Wandy or Taylor could have done that, the Astros would have been in the post season.

Re: Well Pettitte and Clemens return?

If you have to pick up a mediocre pitcher, yeah it is better to pick up one who eats innings. I don't disagree with that. On the other hand, Suppan is not the type of pitcher I consider a good No. 2....

Re: Well Pettitte and Clemens return?

Oh, I don't view Suppan as a two. I view Schmidt and Zito as twos, but they are probably going to get one money. Suppan is a four, and at that price, he seems very reasonable. For example, Pettitte is...

Re: Well Pettitte and Clemens return?

jbm, if the Astros want to be on the safe side. I think they should go ahead and sign Jeff Suppan in the next few weeks. That way we know we got at least a reasonably good rotation of Oswalt, Woody...

I'm glad Pettitte and Clemens are acting this way...as long as guys like Adam Eaton and Randy Wolf are getting 8mil annually...Talk about overpaying for Lee? I'd rather overpay for garunteed...

I don't read his blog very often and don't really care about his opinions. Ohka is just as good as those 2nd teir guys. Because of his price being cheaper than guys like Suppan etc. we could easily...

Re: Well Pettitte and Clemens return?

As for the unluckiness of Pettitte and the luckiness of Suppan, we might disagree on that. DIPs theory and I don't get along. Pettitte, and interestingly Oswalt (for reasons possibly contained in the...

Clack, I think I'm sort of bias towards Jeff Suppan though. I have a close friend who is a Pittsburgh Pirates' Fan, and I remember how excited he got every time Jeff Suppan would pitch for the...

I think they will both be back in Houston. I would also agree that it would take between 20 and 25 million to get them. I think that McClane will pay that for one more year of the Rocket, and...

Re: Well Pettitte and Clemens return?

As we start to get closer to Christmas, my confidence in the Astros re-signing Clemens and Pettitte is getting larger by the day. Hopefully by New Year's 2007, we will have both of them re-signed. I...
